Welcome to our Newest Feature R
ecently due to our change in servers, I decided to add a new feature. Hopefully it will
continue with columns by guests each month or so. What is going on in our lives Currently we are recovering for the holidays,
and preparing for our children's birthdays. In January, three loop kids celebrated their second birthday. Nathan, Barbara, and Stephanie M. Also one loopie's daughter celebrated her fifth
birthday. Loop moms Cindy, Alex, Lainie, and Casey celebrated their birthdays as well. We send out our best wishes to all of them.In February, eight of the kids have birthdays, Gabrielle, Chikako, Kade,
Annie, Brooke, Brandon, and Stephanie D. Tyler-Ann and her mother, Cheryl, share a birthday in February. Other loop moms Roper and Ayumi celebrate this month too. Niko, one of the loopies other
children, celebrates his 1st birthday tin February as well. February seems to be a very busy month for all .
Ways to celebrate birthdays with preschoolers A question on all our minds lately is how
to celebrate birthdays and be able to enjoy parties with the children as well. In a recent survey on AOL, the major themes seems to be Blue's Clues and the Teletubbies. As a mom who did a Blue's Clues party,
this was an easy route to go. WE celebrated with a Blue Paw print cake. The directions were easy enough to follow. It takes making a single layer round cake and four cup cakes, arranged on a tray in
the shape of a paw print. Some things to remember when hold a party for toddler/preschool age include, only have 1 or two guests per year the child will be on the birthday, ex. 2-4 guests on a second
birthday. This actually helps in the long run, due to the fact that the less kids there are, the less fighting there seems to be. Also, keep the plans small, simple, and short. Give the moms and dads
the option of remaining at the party, will help keep the peace a little better. Remember to decorate for safety: no latex balloons (mylar are better), washable cloth or plastic table cloth is easier
and safer than a paper one. Also don't forget the safety in food served. No nuts, popcorn, mini-hotdogs, or any other choking hazard (some of these can be okay, but parents need to keep a close eye on the
children so no accidents occur). Games are fun at any age, some age appropriate games include: circle games such as London Bridge, Ring around the rosie, Farmer in the Dell, dancing - just turn on the
music and let them go, singing favorite songs with hand gestures (my kids love Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes), reading stories, free play, arts and crafts such as stickers on place mats or hats. Try to keep the
competition to a minimum, due to preschoolers notorious lack of sportsmanship. Remember just because your child can be gracious, other children can be sore losers. Plan free time for yourself after the
party. You will need it. The kids can run you totally ragged, but it is worth it to see the smiles on your child's face as they open their gifts! Link of the Month This month we feature a
link to the Hip Mama 'Zine. The woman who came up with the site wrote a book called the Hip Mama's Survival Guide. The book features the viewpoint of a single mom who raised her child on welfare, while
attending college. A lot of her views can be decidedly liberal, but she has a lot of great view points about being hip and raising kids today. Some things included in her site are resources for natural
baby care, sexuality of parents and children, her opinion column, and some links to other sources of information. There are message boards and advice from other parents. The link is: http://www.hipmama.com |
